Luck Reunion 2018: Music+Food Willie Style
When it comes to Luck, what is there really to say. Well, quite a bit actually. If you love Americana & roots based music, this has become one of the premier events in the country. If you love the combination of great music with award winning cuisine, you have also found the right spot. The challenge is that they keep the event exclusive to only 2000 attendee's, which keeps the intimate feel that gives the audience an opportunity to bump elbows with their favorite artists. In fact, the access to artists this year was even greater. Throughout the day, you would see artists hanging out and talking with both other artists and fans alike. What set this year apart was the amazing lineup. I mean, every year, the lineup has been stellar, but there was just something a little different this year that set it apart. For one, they added a new stage by the barn, they had Paul Thorn bring his old Airstream trailer for a front porch performance and Q&A, and they chapel was the hottest spot in the old ghost town called Luck.
My biggest highlight of the day was when Devon Gilfillian delivered a crowd participated version of "Lean on Me". In a time when the world is full of craziness & chaos, Devon was the one that brought the entire crowd to singing an entire verse in complete unison. It was hair raisingly powerful. And while he had that going, Devon gave a funky soulful set that uplifted everyone.
While Devon was great, the lineup included so many great performers, who all delivered:
Aaron Lee Tasjan, Lilly Hiatt, Nathaniel Rateliff, Nikki Lane, Paul Cauthen, The Texas Gentleman, Margo Price with the Band of Heathens, Joshua Hedley, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Lukas & Micah Nelson, and of course Willie. Those were just the names of who I was able to see. In this post is the full lineup.
This year, they did something a little different with the food scene. Not only did they have several of Austins finest food trucks, but they invited some of the most popular restaurants in town to set up pop ups. The food was outstanding, and combined with free beverages (both non alcahol & adult), the day combined for an epic day that everyone who attended will never forget. So for those who got "LUCKY", congrats on a fine fine day.
If you are a fan of Luck, take 15 minutes to watch the embedded video I put together. There is some really powerful stuff in the video. Please share it out and spread the word about the Luck Family. These are some of the finest people on earth, and I am eternally grateful to have had this opportunity to work with such amazing people.
