Daily Lunch Specials: The Best Meal You Will Have All Day

Who doesn't love Fried Chicken Lunch Thursdays or Pork Chop Lunch Wednesdays? When Easter rolls around, its all about the Friday Lenten Specials. One of the things I love most about my favorite places is that I know I can always look forward to a great meal on certain days of the week. I am a huge believer that daily specials kick ass. The reason is quite simple in my opinion, if its on the menu as a special, that would suggest its a chef favorite. With the two places places I want to share with you, I can tell you that you cannot go wrong with their famous specials that draw crowds and lines out the door day in & day out.

The first place is one of the first places I discovered after moving to Texas in 2007. The very first time I tried T-Bone Toms in Kemah (just steps away from the famous Kemah Boardwalk), I knew I found something special. In fact, I learned as of my second visit, that Guy Fieri was in town to film Diners, Drive Ins, & Dives at the mouthwatering Texas comfort food joint. Every time I go to T-Bone Tom's for lunch, I know exactly what I am going to get. I will 100% of the time order the daily lunch special for $7.99. It may be the best $7.99 you can spend, and they do not mess around on the Texas sized portions. The only challenge is in trying to get back to work after the massive gut busting lunch. You will probably need a nap.

T-Bone Toms Daily Lunch Specials are as follows:

Mondays - Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Bacon Green Beans, & a Scratchmade Biscuit. The chicken fried steak is so ridiculously big, it extends well beyond the platter it is served on. The creamy white pepper gravy smothers this insanely large, and yet incredibly delicious Texas staple. It's in the discussion for one of the best chicken fried steaks in a state that prides itself on chicken fried steak.

Tuesday - Beef Tips over Noodles, with mixed greens, corn, & a dinner roll. This meal takes you back to your childhood, and will have you leaving with a smile. The beef tips are so tender, they melt as soon as they hit your tongue. It is smothered in a rich beef gravy that is so incredibly smooth and creamy, that it coats every noodle perfectly. I like to mix the corn in with the noodles to add a little buttery crunch.

Wednesdays - Smothered Pork Chops with Candied Yams, Cabbage, & Cornbread. Comfort food at its finest. The rich gravy smothers the fall off the bone tender melt in your mouth pork. I mean, come on man!!!

Thursdays - Easily, my favorite day of the week at T-Bone Toms (As seen in the photo above). Fried Chicken Thursdays with Mashed Potatoes, Corn, & a Biscuit. This may be the best fried chicken I have ever had, and it has me always wanting to come back for more. These are not your basic, KFC sized pieces of chicken. These are the biggest, most massive, juiciest, crunchiest, and all around perfect pieces of chicken around. I prefer the white meat, and the breast literally oozes with juicy goodness with every bite. They serve a whole wing to go with it that is the size of your fist. Its pretty impressive to be quite honest. I have a tendency to visit Kemah specifically on Thursdays for work, just so I can have the decadently crunchy fried delight.

Fridays - Southern Fried Catfish with Red Beans & Cajun Rice, and a couple hushpuppies on the side. Being that they are right next to the bay, they get the freshest seafood you can find, and the catfish is always perfect. The best part of this dish is the fact that it is served with red beans & rice. Add a dash of Crystal Hot Sauce, and feast away. They use a light, but crunchy cornmeal coating that perfectly compliments the fried catfish. Be prepared, because its not your basic two piece lunch. Its more like four or five (whatever the cook is feeling that day).

Next up, and one of the most legendary lunch specials in the Houston area is the famous Pork Chop Wednesdays at Perry's & Sons Market & Grille on Scarsdale. If you show up on Wednesday, expect to start by waiting in line outside the door. When you walk up to the counter to order, please, for the sake of every person in the place, do not attempt to order anything other than the massive 14hr slow smoked 2 bone thick pork chop for $13. They will look at you like you are clueless, and remind you that it is Wednesday.

This is the same Perry family that operates Houstons finest steakhouse chain. In addition, this is the same pork chop they feature on the dinner menu for $35 at their fine dining establishments. This piece of finely smoked & crusted pork is easily 4 inches thick. It is delivered to the table on a sizzling hot iron skillet, and served with a side of mashed potatoes, apple sauce, & Texas toast. It is a whole bone in pork chop with the baby back ribs, the tenderloin, and the chop. It is designed to be cut into three sections. The centercut chop is meant to be dunked into the housemade apple sauce. And for the love of God, do not ask for ketchup (as a good friend of mine did, and the entire restaurant stared at him like he needed to leave - True story!!!). If you miss a Wednesday, do not worry. You can get this same special Fridays at any one of Perry's fine steakhouses around Houston. But to do it right, you really need to get to the market on Wednesdays.
